Discord and sabway
I was wondering, firstly whether the skills for the player are required or whether you can just run a normal build with it.
Secondly I was wondering whether sabway is better than discord builds?

I use a Dervish with a normal Dervish build and i use Sabway ,i tried Discordway before i tried Sabway and out of the 2 Sabway is better suited to me ,for Discordway to work properly your character needs skills that cause conditions and hexes, for Sabway to work you dont , or at least i dont and i haven't had any problems.

I can see discord working well for a few necro builds I have, but from my position as a dervish and some off my other accounts I think the lack of requirement for triggering the skills involved in sabway makes it more useful for me.

Sabway is outdated, but still works well.
Straight discordway is probably outdated slightly after the last update, but if you are not confident with your build making abilities, it's your best option at the moment. It has a large margain of error, and attacking through walls is very underrated (Assault on Stronghold anyone?)
You'll also find it much easier to find a group for Z-quests with discordway/sabway heroes.

I'm confident with my build making abilities, and currently run a reasonably powerful team that I have put very little effort into. However I am very interested in the discord/sabway builds, in what way is the current sabway builds or the discord builds outdated, if anything the ritualists parts at least are more powerful than before the update. Sorry if this sounds a bit off, or out of tone, I apologise and it isn't meant to.

IF you play a derv running sabway is probably best like the others said, but I run discord with my warrior just cause I'm too cheap to re-rune them for sabway. I hardly have any difficuly with it regardless. It might operate a little slower then with a caster who has the energy pool to cast hexes, but gets the job done.

No need to apologize.
You are absolutely right that the latest update only made N/Rt's more powerful. What I meant by discordway "has a large margin or error" is that it doesn't really matter what build you run or what henchies you bring. So you can bring very subpar/non synergizing builds (i.e. you err) and still do decently. Sabway is the same, except I think sabway is less powerful overall... there have been far too many updates for sabway to still be optimal.
Discordway is good, and I run it, but it is trivially possible to do better than straight discordway (i.e., the wiki version) by synergizing with not only your profession but also the henchies you have available or with the other player(s) you have available.
Basically, after the update, I think you want to take a look at 1) optimizing necro builds and 2) paragon heroes. One paragon can add an insane amount of party defense (and one seriously hax rez). For me, paragons are also useful for triggering barbs/MoP since I play a N/A MoP caller.

So for my dervish it seems Sabway would be more useful, however for my necro and possibly my Mesmer Discordway is much better, I'll have a look at trying to synergise both of them with my Dervish builds.
